Munk Senior Fellow Sean Speer joins the Big Picture Panel on CBC’s On the Money to discuss the political and financial costs of the federal government’s pledge to back the Trans Mountain Pipeline.
“The government has set the equivalent of a red line here,” says Speer. “The prime minister and the minister of finance, and other representatives of government have said this will be built.”
Yet he also notes how little new has actually been said in terms of details.
“They’ve had about thirty days with the deadline well in mind, and we still haven’t seen a legislative strategy, a regulatory strategy,” says Speer. “And even today’s disclosure about an indemnification plan lacks a lot of detail.”
