The Supreme Court of Canada: An important protector of the rights of vulnerable Canadians or the usurper of the proper role of a democratically-elected Parliament?
The Hon. Irwin Cotler and Lord Conrad Black squared off over the proper role of the courts in another entry into the Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s Great Canadian Debate series, held May 31, 2016 at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
Black, a financier, author and columnist, argued in favour of the motion: “Canada’s Supreme Court has usurped the proper role of Parliament”. Cotler, a former federal Justice Minister, argued against.
