Macdonald-Laurier Institute Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley is set to speak on partnerships between Aboriginal Canadians and the energy sector at a panel event in Calgary on May 12, 2015.
CAMPUT, organized by the association
of Canada’s energy and utility regulators, looks at the expanding role of Aboriginal Canadians in the energy sector.
Crowley will take part in a panel that will examine companies’ legal obligation to consult with First Nations groups and the benefits and challenges of economic partnerships between the energy sector and Aboriginal peoples.
Rebecca C. Brown, counsel for the National Energy Board, will be the discussion leader. The other two panelists are:
- Kim Baird, Kim Baird Strategic Consulting, former Chief of Tsawwassen First Nation;
- Mary Pat Campbell, Manager Stakeholder and Aboriginal Relations, Suncor Energy Inc, Calgary
Crowley has written extensively on Aboriginal affairs and the energy sector in the past. This past January, MLI released his commentary “Who Owns Canada?”, which examines the place of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples in the discussion of property rights.
