Andrew Pickford

Expert Overview

Andrew Pickford has held senior roles across the mining industry and private sector, with expertise spanning energy, resources, geopolitics, and economic policy. As a security and policy analyst, he has advised government, academic, and private-sector organizations on investment risk, security, and market entry strategies.

His research focuses on the economic history and development of Western Australia, particularly the role of political leaders and entrepreneurs in developing the state’s natural resources. He is an honorary research fellow at the University of Western Australia Business School and is completing a PhD at the same institution. His doctoral thesis, Corridors of Power: An Energy History of the Creation and Development of Western Australia’s Town Gas, Natural Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas Industries, 1886–2009, examines the evolution of the state’s gas industries over more than a century.

Originally from a farming family in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, Pickford has also studied and lived in Canada, where he continues to hold adjunct appointments with universities and think tanks.
