With attention focused on Alberta’s governing United Conservative Party leadership race, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that Jason Kenney is still in office. Over the coming weeks, conservatives will say farewell to the premier who helped make UCP a reality by uniting the Progressive Conservative and Wildrose parties.
Since first announcing he was going to step down, Kenney has made headlines for sharing his views on the future of Alberta. In August, he criticized UCP leadership frontrunner Danielle Smith’s sovereignty act as “flagrantly unlawful” and argued it “would never become law” and make Alberta “a laughingstock.”
But it’s in a lesser known action that Kenney’s legacy can be understood.
