Mark Harding

Expert Overview
Mark Harding is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Guelph. From 2021 to 2025, he served as the inaugural chair of the Justice and Legal Studies program. His teaching and research focus on judicial politics, Canadian political institutions, and political theory.
He is the author of Judicializing Everything? The Clash of Constitutionalisms in Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom (University of Toronto Press, 2022) and co-editor of the third editions of The Court and the Constitution and The Court and the Charter (University of Toronto Press).
Harding completed his PhD in Political Science at the University of Calgary, where he was a fellow of the Calgary Institute for the Humanities, held a Killam Memorial Scholarship, and taught in the Master of Public Policy program at the School of Public Policy. He currently holds a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grant examining the role of Charter Statements in Canadian courts and Parliament.
