September 29, 2012 – In today’s Globe and Mail, three articles are highlighted from MLI’s flagship magazine to be published on Monday, October 1st.
The first article is authored by BMO Capital Markets Deputy Chief Economist Douglas Porter, “Free Trade at 25: How the FTA Positioned Canada for the 21st Century.” Porter analyses the far-reaching and long-lasting effects of the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on its 25th anniversary.
The second article is by Kevin Lynch, former Clerk of the Privy Council and current Vice-Chair of BMO Financial Group. In “Canada’s Challenge – From Good to Great – A Changing World in Transforming Times,” Lynch writes that Canada’s challenge is going from good to great. He says the fundamentals of the Canadian economy, our fiscal frameworks, and our financial system are among the strongest in the entire world. But Canada also faces challenges on productivity, R&D, and diversifying markets beyond the United States, notably Asia, which within a decade will account for half the world’s output.
Finally, Inside Policy’s interview with Brian Mulroney is also quoted in the Globe and Mail article.
