On December 11, 2023, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, hosted a pivotal forum titled Making the Business Case for Canadian Energy at the Petroleum Club in Calgary, Alberta.

Bringing together leading German and Canadian energy experts, policymakers, and industry representatives, the event featured keynote addresses from Alberta Energy Minister Hon. Brian Jean and leading scholars on European energy policy. Panel discussions explored Canada’s potential to leverage its energy resources on the world stage, the impact of Germany’s Energiewende, and the business case for Canadian energy exports to Europe.

With expert insights from MLI’s Heather Exner-Pirot, the Canadian Global Affairs Institute’s Kelly Ogle and Richard Norris, the CD Howe Institute’s Charles DeLand, Canada West Foundation’s Marla Orenstein, and industry leaders such as Lisa Baiton (CAPP), Greg Caldwell (ATCO), and Edward Burrier (TC Energy), the forum provided a critical platform for rethinking Canada’s energy strategy.
