MLI Senior Fellow Sean Speer appeared on CBC News to offer his thoughts on whether Canada is ready for legal cannabis. Although employers are not completely prepared to create regulations and the zero-tolerance policy poses some issues, Sean Speer believes that “we can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”
Waiting for all regulations to be put in place will result in in-action and further delay the process. Allowing provinces to guide the legalization implementation process will solve the inevitable hurdles as they come.
“I envision that over time we’ll start to see convergence across the country on the best practices,” notes Speer. “The fact that the provinces are going about it in different ways I think is a virtue and not a vice.”
