: Senior Fellow
Senior Fellow Alex Dalziel has almost three decades of experience working on Canada and its geopolitics, built around over 20 years working in Canada’s national security, intelligence and foreign policy communities, as well as time working, studying and living abroad in Finland, Latvia, Ukraine and the United States. While in government, he held analyst and executive positions with the Privy Council Office, the Canada School of Public Service, the Department of National Defence, and the Canada Border Services Agency.
His current areas of specialization are the Arctic and its geopolitics, crossing the dynamics of North American cooperation and security in that region, relations and cooperation with the Nordic countries and NATO member states, the Russia challenge, and the evolving role of non-regional states like China there. He also writes and speaks on Canada’s geopolitical and security role in the world and the intersections of intelligence, national security, trade and economic security.
Dalziel holds a BA and MA in History from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as certificates in Russia and Baltic Area Studies from the University of Eastern Finland and in European Studies from the University of Bonn. He brings to his work foreign language skills in Russian, French and Finnish.
