Human Rights Watch is pressuring Ottawa to bring back Canadian detainees from Syria. However, concerns still linger that there may be ties to ISIS among these detainees, making Ottawa hesitant to act. MLI Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht joined CTV news to discuss this precarious issue.
“The fact is that Canada does not have strategy, it hasn’t had a strategy, and it’s time that Canada has a strategy because this problem is not going away,” said Leuprecht when asked if Canada should bring back Canadians in Syria despite concerns.
Leuprecht explained that there are the changes needed to legislation to ensure that those who have committed crimes do not return to Canada and live with impunity.
