How quickly the world forgets. On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas committed unspeakable atrocities that shook Israel and horrified much of the world. Yet, less than two years later, the conversation has shifted to slogans of “genocide,” “colonization” and “apartheid.” The brutality of that day has been drowned out by narratives that serve the interests of Hamas’s backers rather than the cause of peace. Hamas is now seen as the victim and Israel and Jews the world over are being blamed for everything from tsunamis to earthquakes.
The West has, tragically, allowed itself to be influenced by the ideological machinery of the Muslim Brotherhood, Iran and its many proxies. The result is a distorted conversation where the blame falls squarely on Israel, while those who glorify terrorism and refuse coexistence are given a pass.
It is in this climate that many argue the path to peace lies in the recognition of a Palestinian state. But what kind of state is being recognized? One governed by those who reject Israel’s right to exist outright and enshrine violence as policy? Such recognition is not a step toward peace, but a reinforcement of the very forces that perpetuate conflict.
