Ian Campbell is Digital Editor at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. Previously he served as a reporter and the deputy digital editor for The Hill Times, where he covered finance, health policy, federal-provincial relations, democratic institutions, and digital policy. He has reported extensively on topics such as how Canada’s current system of budgets, estimates, and public accounts leads to a lack of close scrutiny of government spending by parliamentarians. He has also worked as an associate producer and online reporter for CBC Newfoundland & Labrador.
Born and raised in Ottawa, he’s spent over a decade living in St. John’s, N.L., giving him two very different vantage points on the country.
Ian is also a certified history teacher who is passionate about telling the story of Canada’s past. He holds a Master of Journalism from Carlton University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario.
